Free Hearing Aids with PRSI

You can now avail of FREE hearing aids through the PRSI Treatment Benefit Scheme. The Department of Social Protection has changed the rules regarding grant funding towards the cost of hearing aids.

Grant qualified applicants no longer have to match the Benefit with an equal or greater amount.

The grant is also available to eligible claimants every fourth calendar year, so even if you had previously received this benefit, you may be entitled to claim again and replace your old hearing aid system.

Who Qualifies?

If you (or your spouse) are either employed, self-employed, or even retired and have the required number of appropriate PRSI contributions, you are most likely to be eligible to get a pair of hearing aids up to the value of €1,000 completely free. As The Hearing Consultancy is on the Department of Social Protection list of approved Medical Appliance Suppliers, we can quickly check and confirm eligibility.

This significant change to the Grant Benefit system will be of interest to anybody who is waiting on the HSE list for Health Board Hearing Aids, as we can typically test and fit either on the day or within a very short time period depending on the type of system required.

What Hearing Aids are available under this scheme?

There are two styles of Hearing Aids :

The modern Receiver In The Ear (RITE) version, suitable for a Mild, Moderate to Severe hearing loss

A Behind The Ear (BTE) for Severe to Profound hearing loss

NB: You can still use your Grant towards the purchase of any of our Advanced Hearing Aid systems, so now you have complete freedom of choice in how your benefit is applied.
