Advanced Diagnostics

Audiometric tests provide a subjective analysis of the respondents Air Conduction and Bone Conduction thresholds and whilst usually accurate they cannot, when taken in isolation necessarily provide a comprehensive diagnosis of a hearing, middle ear or retro cochlear disorder.

At The Hearing Consultancy we have invested significantly in the latest advanced diagnostic equipment, our Audiometers are amongst the most powerful available and are capable of providing a comprehensive battery of tests to compliment standard Audiometry.

Impedance Testing

Tympanometry and Impedance testing is an examination used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal. Tympanometry is an objective test of middle-ear function and unlike audiometry, tympanometry does not rely on any response from the patient it is entirely automatic and can be effectively employed on persons of all ages including those where a verbal response would not be feasible or achievable.

The test can indicate, amongst other issues:-

Tympanometry - The Hearing Consultancy
Admittance - The Hearing Consultancy
Speech Audiometry - The Hearing Consultancy

Speech Audiometry

Speech audiometry includes speech awareness/detection thresholds, speech recognition thresholds, word recognition testing, and sensitised speech testing (filtered, compressed, speech in noise, etc.) and is used to evaluate hearing sensitivity and speech perception ability and for site-of-lesion testing.

Any identified referable problems will be highlighted and a report prepared for your GP in order that the correct remedial action can be taken. If there are no contradictions and a non-referable hearing loss is identified our consultant will guide you through the most appropriate solution for your needs.
